Background: The African Institute for Health and Development (AIHD) is a not for profit, Non‐Governmental Organization (NGO) established in June 2004 in Nairobi, Kenya by a group of accomplished African researchers and academicians. The Institute mainly focuses on evidence-based programming by conducting research, training and advocacy on health and development issues that are contextually relevant to Kenya and the African continent. The Institute works in collaboration with Governments and local, national, regional, and international partners. The AIHD is involved in policy formulation on key development issues such as poverty alleviation, gender mainstreaming, health promotion, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), social protection, among others. Over the years, the AIHD has acquired experience and expertise to improve well-being of individuals, communities, the nation, and region at large.

Job Summary: The African Institute for Health and Development (AIHD) is seeking to recruit a Qualitative Data Analyst to support one of its PHD students under the Adoption of A Child-Friendly Pediatric Formulation Of Praziquantel For The Treatment of Schistosomiasis Among Pre-School Aged Children In Endemic Counties In Kenya Project. S/he will support the analysis of qualitative data collected using focus group discussions and key informant interviews with a particular focus on NVIVO data analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a thematic codebook for generating themes and sub-themes in line with the objectives of the analysis. This will involve producing summaries, abstracts and coding.
  • Develop coding notes from the Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs).
  • Carry out a detailed analysis of the qualitative data collected using NVivo.
  • Develop qualitative analysis report that includes a description of results in terms of themes and sub-themes, including but not limited to quotations, examining relationships and patterns between categories and themes, discussion of results, and annex for the final codebook.
  • Ensuring the daily upload of the complete data.
  • Work with the evaluation team to identify appropriate analytical methods to conduct qualitative analyses accordingly.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or any other related Social Science, a Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • Proficiency with NVivo for data management and analysis.
  • At least two years’ experience in qualitative data analysis using content analysis, including the application of conceptual frameworks, codebook development, and coding.
  • Experience performing rapid qualitative analysis.
  • Excellent report writing skills and experience in producing high-quality reports on outcomes of qualitative analysis.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Experience working on health and/or social science research projects.
  • Understanding of basic concepts of confidentiality and data security.
