This year’s team building activities and conference sessions were held at the majestic Tafaria Castle

and Center for the Arts, located in rural Kenya on a hill, next to the scenic Aberdare ranges

overlooking the Laikipia plains and Mt Kenya. It was an exciting four days, where the team planned

and developed strategies that are meant to guide the Institute for the next five years. The team also

indulged in critical thinking and analytical games such as tying an overhand knot, ‘a ping and a pong’

to test listening and concentration skills, fill the bottle, traffic jam etc. The balanced scorecard was

reviewed during the conference sessions, which was a great way to improve internal operations.

Other than that, there were discussions on the underpinnings of culture, which ignited interesting

conversations that bonded the team. The corporate life cycle was looked at and the need to identify

gaps to be filled was recognized. This will help get the Institute to its prime, be well known, and

develop and implement numerous projects that will better the lives of different communities

nationally and regionally.
