Samson Radeny- Chairperson AIHD BOARD

Samson holds a PhD (Sociology) and he is a specialist in Strategic Communication for Behavior Change. He is a Program Manager and Country Representative for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health – Center for Communication Programs (CCP) based in Nairobi. He has over 10 years of experience in research, design and management of reproductive health and behavior change programs in Africa. He has worked for several organizations including MAP International – East Africa Office and Program for Appropriate Technologies in Health (PATH). He has previously taught sociology at Nairobi and Daystar universities. He is currently working with Save the Children - Ethiopia

Peter Gaiku- Treasurer

Peter holds a BSc (accounting) and an MBA (Strategic Management). He is a Certified Public Accountant. Peter specializes in finance and strategic management. He has 17 years experience in managing non-governmental organizations having worked for various international organizations in senior management positions. He is currently the Finance Manager with the Population Council. He has local and international experience in setting up organizational systems and structures that enhance high quality performance and management of resources. He is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya

Mary Amuyunzu - Nyamongo - Executive Director and Secretary to the Board

Mary holds a PhD (Social Anthropology) – she is a founder member of AIHD. She has previously worked as a research coordinator and manager for adolescent sexual and reproductive health projects in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Malawi, Ghana and Burkina Faso. She serves on various TDR–WHO committees including the Implementation Research, Community Directed Interventions and the African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control. She also reviews proposals for the European Commission and other institutions.

Francis Ang’ila Aywa

Francis holds an LLB and a Diploma in Law. He has more than eight years of experience in civil society and governance work. His particular strength is in research, project cycle management, process consulting, evaluations, organizational development, strategic planning and reviews, capacity strengthening and training. He has worked with a number of organizations in both governmental and the non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Prior to taking up full-time consulting work, Francis was the Chief Executive Officer of the National Council of NGOs, the umbrella body for all NGOs registered in Kenya.

Isaac Keango Nyamongo - Founder Member

Isaac holds a PhD (Medical Anthropology) – he is a founder member of AIHD. He is currently an Associate Professor and the Director of the Institute of African Studies, University of Nairobi. His main research focus has been on health seeking behaviour, HIV and AIDS and malaria. He has published in various peer reviewed international journals and contributed to book chapters.

Kaendi Munguti-Founder Member

Kaendi holds a PhD (Medical Anthropology/social medicine) – she is a founder member of AIHD. She is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Nairobi and coordinates the academic programmes at the Institute. She has previously worked with World Health Organization (WHO) “Roll-Back-Malaria” programme within the Africa Regional Office in Zimbabwe. She is currently providing consultancy services to JHPIEGO Corporation on malaria in pregnancy

Lilian Tendo-Wambua

Lilian holds a Masters degree in Medicine. She is a specialist in sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS issues. She has extensive work experience with different international non-governmental organizations including AMREF and Compassion International culminating in her current position as the HIV/AIDS Africa Director for World Relief. Her primary interest is to improve access to health for the disadvantaged and vulnerable populations in Africa through churches and church-based organizations

Lynette Okeng’o - Founder Member

Lynette holds a PhD (Early Childhood Development, Kenyatta University-Kenya, 2007) - she is a founder member of AIHD. She has a wealth of experience in statistical methods and in early childhood development. She has been a lecturer at Kenyatta University for over 5 years. She is currently working with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Nairobi Office.
