Membership to the consortium fall into four broad Categories:
- Institutional members:
Organisations of international, national or local scope, one of whose main purpose is to undertake or promote one or more aspects of health promotion and/or health education and/or which focus on NCD specific themes, target groups, or settings. They include:- Professional associations, those that have national and continental outreach, including associations/foundations with focus on heart, stroke, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, tobacco control, nutrition, physical activity, surveillance, health promotion and advocacy, among others;
- National societies, associations or foundations
Focusing on heart, stroke, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, tobacco control, nutrition, physical activity, surveillance and health promotion, among others
Regional blocks such as the African Union (AU), the East Africa Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Commonwealth, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), among others, on an ex-officio and advisory basis (i.e. the Consortium may provide views that may not necessarily reflect the official position of such institutions); - Development partners
Including bilateral and multi-lateral donors, international and national non-governmental organizations with an interest in NCDs in the African region, government ministries/departments, among others on an ex-officio and advisory basis (i.e. the Consortium may provide views that may not necessarily reflect official position of such institutions);
- Individual members: Individuals who have a track record for activities in NCD in Africa and beyond (i.e. those who may or may not be affiliated to the existing associations and/or groupings).
- Honorary members: An individual or organisation who/that makes a special contribution to the mission of the CNCD-Africa, or to the development of its goals and objectives may be invited to be an honorary member.
- Trustee members: Organizations in the region that carry out activities which are consistent with the mission, goals, objectives and purpose of CNCD-Africa.
